Wisconsin Community Solar Program
The legislature is quickly recognizing that enabling a community solar program will offer landowners the opportunity to utilize their private property rights, diversify their revenue streams, and protect some of the nation’s most unique, productive farmland from irreversible development at a smaller scale than what is required for utility-scale solar or wind. Lightstar is committed to working with legislators and landowners in Wisconsin to realize the benefits of community solar, and we’re excited about the burgeoning opportunities in the state.
Update - Decemeber 2025: Unfortunately, the Senate sponsor of the community solar legislation that Lightstar supports lost his race in a highly contested general election. A new bill sponsor on the Senate side is being sought to reintroduce the legislation in 2025. The Wisconsin State Legislature will return to session in January 2025. In contrast to some of the other Midwestern states, Wisconsin will focus on the budget appropriations process for the first half of 2025.
