Ohio Community Solar Program

Ohio is on the brink of adopting community solar enabling legislation. Community solar can help Ohio generate more in-state energy to help power the many energy-intensive industries targeted for economic development. Lightstar sees community solar in Ohio as an ideal use to repurpose distressed sites with clean energy generation, as well as a great tool to help landowners diversify their incomes with dual-use agrivoltaics. If approved, the prospective community solar program in Ohio could allow larger project sizes of up to 10MW, among the largest of any state in the nation.

Update - Decemeber 2024: The Ohio Senate and House were marginally active at the end of 2024 but no energy-related bills moved to the floor of either Chamber during the lame duck session. Community solar bill sponsors plan to reintroduce legislation in 2025. Legislative efforts in 2025 will hopefully be unencumbered by the fight for the Speaker's gavel that occured throughout 2024.
