New Mexico Community Solar Program
New Mexico is one of the nation’s newest community solar markets and has a goal of 100% carbon-free electricity by 2045. The state opened the community solar program in 2023 with much industry interest and uptake. This was made possible by SB84, signed into law in April of 2021. Lightstar sees New Mexico as an important milestone in the continued uptake of community solar legislation in the US.
Update - December 2024: New Mexico is one of the nation’s newest community solar markets and has a goal of 100% carbon-free electricity by 2045. The state opened the community solar program in 2023 with much industry interest and uptake. This was made possible by SB84, signed into law in April of 2021. In 2024, a decision made by the Public Regulatory Commission set forth the opportunity for 300MWs in addition to the MWs in the original program. Lightstar sees New Mexico as an important milestone in the continued uptake of community solar legislation in the US.
