Michigan Community Solar Program

Michigan has signaled its strong commitment to clean energy by formalizing a plan to become carbon neutral by 2050. Lightstar is working with a coalition of legislators to pass community solar legislation that will aid the state in becoming more energy independent and preserving farmland from permanent development. Lightstar sees the prospective Michigan community solar market as an exciting opportunity in the Midwest.

Update - December 2024: Unfortunately, the Michigan House failed to move any policy priorities forward during the 2024 lame duck session. Because of this, at the last whip count, community solar enabling legislation championed by Lightstar was 7 votes short of moving forward. Reintroduction of this legislation will take place in early 2025. In the new year, the Michigan Democrat trifecta will end as Republicans take the majority in the House. Lightstar continues to more forward with planning and development for the company's portfolio of sites in the City of Detroit, which will incorporate urban agrivoltaics.
