Maryland Community Solar Program

In 2023, the Maryland State Legislature passed legislation to establish the permanent community solar program, which will open on January 1, 2025 and represents an opportunity to encourage preferred siting practices, such as agrivoltaics. Lightstar is diligently working with county policymakers, non-profit and citizen interest groups, community members, the MD Farm Bureau, the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) and other stakeholders across the state to provide an agrivoltaics solution to siting community solar in rural communities. Agrivoltaics represents an opportunity to continue agricultural operations in earnest within the solar array, while providing farming families and tenant farmers with increased financial viability and energy independence.
